The United Nations (UN) System consists of the United Nations (the six main bodies of the UN), and various other organizations that work with the UN to achieve common goals. Each organization has a different focus, such as children, the environment, refugees, food, or health. The organizations below are just several of many organizations within the UN System.

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)

UNICEF advocates for the rights, safety, health, and education of children, especially the most vulnerable, such as children with disabilities and children in emergency situations.

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)

The UNEP strives to protect and improve the environment, so that people alive today and in the future can enjoy high quality lives. The UNEP works to inform, motivate, and enable people around the world.

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)

The UNHCR offers life-saving protection, shelter, health services, and education to people who must flee their homes. The agency helps asylum-seekers, internally displaced people, refugees, stateless people, and returnees.

World Food Programme (WFP)

The WFP delivers food assistance in emergencies, often in places where there is conflict. The programme also works with communities to improve sustainability and nutrition.

World Health Organization (WHO)

The WHO promotes well-being and expands access to health care. The organization responds to health emergencies and diseases that threaten people around the world.

All of these organizations have social media pages that provide important information and opportunities. Look for the UN, UNICEF, UNEP, UNHCR, WFP, and WHO on YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook or Instagram.
